Aboriginal Education in School District 8 - Kootenay Lake is designed to support the success of all Aboriginal students: First Nations (status and non-status), Metis, and Inuit students who self-identify.
How do you get involved? Each September, forms will go out to all students who have Aboriginal ancestry checked off on their school registration form. Each school will have a specific Aboriginal support person. Ask your school principal if you are not sure who your school contact is. If you would like to participate in the Aboriginal support program, you fill out the form and return to the school no later than Sept. 30. After that, you are in! Supports could look like some extra academic monitoring, specific academic support for any subject, cultural learning opportunties or a fun field trip!
Designed in consultation with parents, guardians, Elders, students, staff and the traditional territories, services may include Aboriginal language and culture and/or academic support.
