An Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreement (AEA) is a working agreement between a school district, all local Aboriginal communities, and the Ministry of Education designed to enhance the educational achievement of Aboriginal students. This Agreement has now expired, as of June 2019.
In 2018-2019, the Aborignal Department visited all of our communities for consultations. Through this important community feedback, it was agreed our 4 AEA goals are still meaningful for our district in supporting Aboriginal student success. We will continue to use these goals, as well as the Aboriginal Education Department team goals, to guide our work as we move forward. At this time, we will not be signing or developing a formal AEA. For the 2021 school year, we look forward to continued community consultations on how best to support students in SD8 Kootenay Lake #sd8abed!
