Aboriginal Education in School District No.8 (Kootenay Lake) is designed to support the success of all Aboriginal students: First Nations (status and non-status), Métis and Inuit students who self-identify.
How do you get involved?
An information form goes home in early September for all students who have self-identified as Indigenous on their school registration form. To participate in the Aboriginal support program, the form must be signed and returned to the school no later than September 29th each school year. Supports could look like extra academic monitoring, specific academic support for any subject, cultural learning opportunities or a fun field trip!
Designed in consultation with parents, guardians, Elders, students, staff and the traditional territories rights holders, services may include Aboriginal language and culture and/or academic support.
District supplemental Aboriginal Education supports are guided by the Aboriginal Education Focus Area goals, designed through consultation with Aboriginal families, students, and communities.
In addition, we are pleased to share the Aboriginal Education's annual report highlighting actions, successes, goals, and data: Cultural and Identity Development Continuous Learning Report. This report can be found here: Continuous Learning Reports
