Check Out the Awesome: South Nelson
This year the students in the Aboriginal Education program welcomed elders Donna Wright and Ann-Marie Smith to South Nelson to share the drum making process. This was an extra special project because it was 3 years in the making. We had hoped to make the drums in the spring of 2020, so we were so excited and honoured to be able to finally make the drums. Students spent the day stretching, tying, and weaving the drums together. Ann-Marie and Donna shared so many teachings about the drums as we went and students were so proud of the drums they made. The intermediate classes then helped finish making the drumsticks. Once we awaken the drums, we will have enough drums for an entire class to play.
