National Ribbon Skirt Day
In 2021, a young girl in Saskatchewan chose to wear a traditional Ribbon Skirt to her school formal. Her choice of what she was wearing was shamed by a staff at her school. This caused a stir of support around the globe for the student and many people across Turtle Island chose to wear a Ribbon Skirt the following day.
In 2022, a bill went before the Senate to declare January 4th National Ribbon Skirt Day. The Bill received Royal Assent later in the year and declared an Act of Parliament. As of January 4th, 2023, National Ribbon Skirt Day became celebrated across Turtle Island.
National Ribbon Skirt Day is honoured on January 4th every year.
